Apostasy Vulnerability Index: Concept and Measurement Implementation

Apostasy Vulnerability Index or abbreviated as AVI is a tool used to measure the vulnerability of apostasy in a district/city in 34 provinces in Indonesia. This index is a composite index composed of indices in each component.

Formulation of AVI is done by a sequential exploratory design method, which is a combination of a qualitative and quantitative approach. Four phases are carried out in this method. These phases are a literature review, on field research, focus group discussion (FGD), and calculation of apostasy vulnerability index.

AVI is formed by religious and disadvantaged regions indicator. The former is further reduced to 4 variables: (i) Muslim growth; (ii) non-Muslim growth; (iii) composition change of Muslim population; and (iv) composition change of Muslim worship places. Thus, each indicator and each variable has a contribution weight.
